Ontario New Home Warranty – RADON Coverage

Tarion recognizes that homeowners are increasingly concerned about RADON gas as a potential health hazard.
Under the Tarion Home Warranty Program, the cost of RADON mitigation may be covered if testing proves that levels exceed Health Canada’s guideline of 200 Bq/m³.
If your home is less than 7 years old and the measured RADON level is above the acceptable limit, Tarion will cover mitigation costs up to $50,000. To confirm your eligibility, contact Tarion directly.
How to Make a Claim
To submit a RADON claim under the Tarion Warranty, homeowners must provide the following:
- Official test results showing the average RADON level in the basement (finished or unfinished, but not crawl spaces).
- Identification of the testing method, whether it was a short-term test (less than 3 months) or a long-term test (minimum 3 months), following Health Canada’s Guide for Radon Measurements in Residential Dwellings (Homes).
- Test results performed by a C-NRPP certified professional (Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program).
- Mitigation work must be completed by a C-NRPP certified Mitigation Professional, and Tarion must be contacted before the work begins.
